EYFS Curriculum Framework

The first five years of a child’s life is a period of rapid physical and intellectual growth. Recognising the vital importance and formative nature of learning. Constant effort is made to ensure that every experience offered to the child is of the highest possible quality.

The EYFS framework is broad and balanced and provides progression to the wholeness and all round development of the child which is kept at the forefront of all curriculum planning.

Children within the Foundation Stage experience seven areas of learning and development. The three prime areas are critically crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

Children within the Foundation Stage experience seven areas of learning and development. The three prime areas are critically crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

These three prime areas, are;

  • Communication and Language;
  • Physical development; and
  • Personal, social and emotional development;

The specific areas are:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics:
  • Understanding the world: and
  • Expressive arts and design

The curriculum is well planned and resourced to allow each child to expand and develop his or her skills in a safe, caring environment. Each child is valued and opportunities for learning are developed through a broad range of both indoor and outdoor activities. A great deal of learning is focused through play. The nursery has access to a large well resourced, outdoor area, which greatly enhance learning opportunities and experience for all children.

Progress check at two

The nursery supplies its parents with a short written summary of their child’s development in the three prime areas of learning and development, when the child is aged between 24-36 months. This progress check enables earlier identification of development needs so that additional support can be put in place.

Observation and Assessment

Observation, assessment and record keeping are an important part of the educational process which begins as soon as the child starts at the nursery. Observations are made by adults, who are involved with the child, including: parents/carers, nursery staff, students and other professionals as well as the children themselves.At the nursery an initial assessment is based on information from the home setting shared by parents and carers with staff, in addition to information from other settings and agencies.

 Treehouse Nursery School, delivering an individual approach.

When you choose to send your child to nursery, you want your precious little one to feel safe, loved and at home.  Because they understand this, Treehouse Nursery allocates a key person for every child in their care. This person is chiefly responsible for your child while he or she is at the Treehouse Nursery, and will do their utmost to ensure that they get the very best care. Not only that, but they will take time to build a relationship with your child that is based on trust, kindness and mutual understanding. The key person will chat, and most importantly, listen to your child about what they like doing and are good at; and what is less appealing or not of interest. As well as this, your child's mentor at Treehouse Nursery will encourage them to try new things and new experiences, learning different skills and developing different interests.
